Chapter 13: An unfinished building harbors a malevolent spirit that steals lives!
In the half-abandoned construction site, steel bars, cement, and discarded building materials are scattered everywhere.
Lu Jingchen and Chen Deshun walked in side by side, but after taking only two steps, he suddenly stopped.
He looked up and glanced around.
The sun was shining brightly overhead, making my back feel hot.
But a bone-chilling wind was blowing through the construction site, and an unease of dark, gloomy air hung in the air.
It looked eerie and creepy, a completely different world from the bright sunshine outside.
Lu Jingchen chuckled, knowing exactly what was going on.
No wonder this place can breed such ferocious evil spirits; it's a place that's dangerous to these filthy creatures.
It's practically a perfect breeding ground for evil spirits.
Chen Deshun followed beside him, looking around in bewilderment.
He scratched his head, looking puzzled, and spoke.
"Jingchen, what did you just say?"
"Isn't this just a half-finished, abandoned construction site?"
"Overgrown with weeds, it doesn't look like a decent place at all!"
Lu Jingchen didn't explain further to him and started walking deeper into the construction site.
His tone was calm, yet carried an undeniable certainty.
"Check on the children first; saving lives is the priority."
Chen Deshun quickly jogged a few steps and followed closely behind him.
I dared not miss a single thing, for fear of getting it contaminated with something dirty again.
The makeshift prefabricated steel-framed houses were packed to the brim.
All the workers were wearing hard hats, and the smell of smoke and sweat mingled together, making it hard to breathe.
A young man was lying on a makeshift cot in the middle of the crowd.
His face was as white as a sheet of rice paper soaked in water, without a trace of blood.
A worker who looked like a foreman saw Chen Deshun at the door.
He immediately pushed through the crowd and rushed over, his face full of unconcealed anxiety.
"Old He, you've finally arrived!"
"Something's wrong with Wenbin! He was talking nonsense just now, and now he's rolling his eyes!"
Lu Jingchen didn't say anything, but walked straight through the crowd to the bedside.
She glanced down at the young man on the bed.
All that could be seen was a thick, impenetrable black mist covering the top of his head.
Even the area between his eyebrows was so dark it looked shiny; it seemed like he was beyond saving.
Lu Jingchen frowned, his tone becoming more serious.
"The evil spirits have already seeped into his brain; if we had been any later, it would have been too late."
He turned to look at Chen Deshun beside him, his tone serious.
"Uncle He, you're lucky to have bumped into me today."
"Otherwise, your nephew definitely won't make it to dawn the day after tomorrow."
Chen Deshun's face turned pale instantly; he was so frightened he almost lost his soul.
She grabbed Lu Jingchen's arm tightly, her voice trembling.
"Huh? The day after tomorrow?"
"Jingchen, I beg you, you must save Wenbin!"
"He's their only son; if he's gone, his parents won't be able to survive either!"
Lu Jingchen raised his hand and patted his arm, his tone so steady it was reassuring.
"It's just some dirty stuff crawling into my body. It's no big deal."
"With me here, nothing will happen. Don't worry."
The workers around looked at each other.
His face was full of suspicion, and he looked Lu Jingchen up and down as if he were a conman.
They whispered amongst themselves, their words filled with disbelief.
Just then, a middle-aged man wearing a suit and a large gold watch appeared.
He pushed his way through the crowd with a look of annoyance, like a rooster with its feathers standing on end.
He pointed at Chen Deshun and started cursing.
"Chen Deshun, have you lost your mind, or did you get your brain caught in a door?"
"You actually believe this kind of charlatan's nonsense?"
"What kind of era are we in that we're still resorting to these crooked and superstitious methods?"
"I'm asking you, was an ambulance called or not?"
Chen Deshun quickly stepped forward and stood in front of Lu Jingchen.
His face was full of anxiety, as if he was afraid that President Zhang would anger Lu Jingchen.
"Mr. Zhang, please don't talk nonsense!"
"This is my distant nephew; he's truly incredibly talented!"
He turned to his fellow workers and shouted at the top of his lungs.
"Everyone's looking at me, aren't they?"
"When I arrived at the hospital, my face was ashen, and I was having trouble breathing. I looked like I had one foot in the grave!"
"Thanks to my nephew's help, I'm completely healed now! Nothing's wrong with me at all!"
The workers immediately erupted in a commotion, whispering and scrutinizing Chen Deshun.
"Hey, you know what, when Old He came over just now, his face really did look like a dead man's."
"Now he looks radiant, not sickly at all."
"Could this young man actually be quite skilled?"
"A lot of strange things have been happening at this construction site lately, maybe it really will work?"
Mr. Zhang's face darkened instantly as he listened to the surrounding discussions.
His temper flared even more, and a furious shout shook the prefab house.
"Shut up, all of you! What's all the noise about!"
"Chen Deshun, let me tell you, if you delay the child's treatment, can you bear the responsibility?"
"I'm asking you, how long until the ambulance arrives?"
Chen Deshun was speechless for a moment and subconsciously turned to look at Lu Jingchen.
His eyes were full of pleading.
Lu Jingchen took a step forward and stared straight at President Zhang.
His eyes were as cold as ice crystals, showing no fear whatsoever.
Even if an ambulance came speeding by, it wouldn't save his life.
"It won't take me three seconds to clean the filth off him."
He exuded a powerful aura, and his entire demeanor instantly changed.
The oppressive atmosphere made those around them afraid to even breathe.
"But I have one condition: your construction site must immediately cease all operations."
Mr. Zhang's eyes widened instantly, staring at him as if he were a madman.
"What did you say? Stop work?"
"Are you out of your mind?"
"Do you know how much money I lose if this construction site is shut down for even a day?"
"That's enough for you to work your whole life and still not earn!"
Lu Jingchen took another half step forward, his gaze becoming even more oppressive.
She stared intently at him, her tone full of warning.
"If construction doesn't stop, they'll keep looking for someone to take advantage of what's buried underground."
"If someone dies, you should consider how serious the consequences will be."
After saying this, he completely ignored Mr. Zhang, whose face was ashen.
He turned and walked to the bedside, ready to take action.
The surrounding workers immediately erupted in a commotion, exchanging skeptical glances.
"This construction site has been really strange lately, something keeps happening."
"Yes, someone fell off the scaffold a while ago, luckily they weren't seriously injured."
"I'm on night duty, and I always hear a woman crying in the toilet, but when I go out to check, there's nothing there."
"Could there really be something down there underground?"
Upon hearing these words, Mr. Zhang's face turned as black as if it could drip water.
I was so angry I could scream in my head, cursing under my breath.
A bunch of brainless idiots, they believed a charlatan after just a few words.
I'd like to see what kind of trouble you can cause.
If you fail to save him, I'll take you straight to the police station and send you to jail!
Lu Jingchen stood by the bed and slowly raised his right hand.
Bring your index and middle fingers together to form a standard sword-finger gesture.
He muttered a single, low voice: "Disperse!"
The moment he finished speaking, a dazzling white light suddenly burst forth from his fingertips.
The gentle yet righteous light instantly illuminated the entire dimly lit prefab house.
Even the sunlight outside the window was suppressed.
The surrounding workers were instantly stunned, their eyes wide open like saucers.
His mouth was so wide open that an egg could fit inside, and he even forgot to breathe.
"Light... His fingers are glowing?!"
"Holy crap! This isn't special effects, is it? I'm not seeing things, am I?"
Mr. Zhang's pupils dilated in shock, and he froze on the spot.
The arrogance and disdain on his face vanished instantly.
All that remained was a face full of shock and disbelief.
"What... what kind of magic trick is this? How is this possible?"
The entire prefabricated house fell into a deathly silence.
Everyone stared intently at Lu Jingchen's fingers.
His eyes were filled with disbelief, and his worldview was completely shattered.
