Chapter 348 - 256: Surprise Attack, The Void Divine Object Is a Spirit Treasure (Part 2)
"Hey, hey, the signal’s bad over here. Speak up!"
Ding Huiyuan shouted into his communicator.
"What? An Ancient One made a move using an avatar? Send me their locations. Okay, the signal’s getting bad, can’t talk anymore, hanging up."
Before the staffer on the other end could say more, Ding Huiyuan hung up, a smile touching the corners of his mouth.
’The Mediterranean Region is really getting lively.’
’Looks like I’ll have to hurry, or I might miss this frenzy.’
Just as Wei Cheng had predicted, the staff contacted Zhou Qingchen, Huang Tianhu, Ding Huiyuan, and the others. As expected, not a single one was willing to gather in one place; they all merely claimed to have their own ways of handling the situation.
Hadn’t they all gone through arduous Cultivation for this very moment?
Yi Beidou had defected from his country, fought a nation single-handedly, and assaulted the true body of an Ancient One. Were they seriously not brave enough to face a group of avatars?
"These guys..."
Upon receiving the news, Zhao Cheng felt a headache coming on, mixed with a sense of utter helplessness.
"Mobilize all our forces along the Mediterranean coast! Keep a constant watch on their movements. No matter what, we have to provide them with proper intelligence and logistical support!"
In the end, this was the only order Zhao Ping could give.
It was the most he could do.
Meanwhile, on the world wide web, videos and images of Saint Realm masters being attacked in the Mediterranean Region inevitably began to spread. Even some casualty figures were inexplicably leaked, as if some hidden hand was pushing the news, ensuring more and more people learned of this major development.
"This many Saint Realm experts have been killed or injured?! What in the world is happening in the Mediterranean Region?!"
"My god, I’m more curious about who’s behind it. Who has the power to pull off something like this on an organized scale?! Can Saint Realm experts really be killed so easily? Some kind of terrorist organization?"
"Saint Realm experts from many countries are evacuating the Mediterranean Region. There must be an extremely important secret involved."
"..."
It was impossible for the world’s nations to completely suppress the news online, and it sparked massive discussion.
Just then, certain secret information began to circulate.
"This world is vast, hiding many secrets unknown to ordinary people. Throughout human history, nations rise and fall, but what remains constant are the Secret Organizations hidden in the deepest shadows. Their members possess power beyond the Saint Realm and the strength to rival entire countries. They are the true masters of this world."
"What’s a Saint Realm expert? Before these Secret Organizations, they can only retreat, becoming hunted prey! Even national powers have to step aside! They are the true masters of Earth!"
"..."
Secret Organizations—these shadowy forces, hidden for who knows how many years, were beginning to surface, gradually becoming known to the general public.
The public found it difficult to discern the truth from the flood of information, but one thing was undeniable: attention on the events in the Mediterranean Region was skyrocketing.
「France. On the vast ocean west of Brest.」
A naval vessel was approaching the coastline at high speed.
At the bow of the vessel, a tall figure stood against the sea wind, gazing into the distance.
He had messy blond hair and an incredibly handsome face, yet his eyes were indifferent, as if he were a deity looking down upon the mortal world.
Devi Punk.
TAP, TAP, TAP!
Just then, footsteps sounded from behind as a middle-aged man in a sharp suit walked briskly toward Devi Punk.
"Mr. Devi, we just received a message from headquarters. There’s likely a Secret Organization ambush hidden in Brest. The higher-ups hope you’ll wait on the water for a while until the others arrive, so you can act together."
The middle-aged man relayed the intelligence to Devi in a low voice.
Starry Sky Country had covert collaborations with the Secret Organizations, but that didn’t mean they were in a subordinate relationship.
Each side had its own interests; they were simply using each other. If given the chance, the upper echelons of Starry Sky Country wanted to see those hidden swords shatter more than anyone.
Especially when it concerned the secrets hidden in the Mediterranean Region, secrets that might touch upon the very essence of human life.
"Since ancient times, only cattle and sheep have moved in herds. The strong always walk alone. Are you suggesting I become one of the herd?"
"The rival I acknowledge dared to challenge an entire nation by himself. And now, I’m faced with a mere few avatars, and you want me to back down? If I did, how could I ever face that person again?"
Devi said coolly, his arms crossed over his chest.
Suddenly, his expression froze as if he had sensed something. A terrifying aura erupted from him, nearly knocking the middle-aged man beside him off his feet.
VMM!!
A light flashed between Devi’s brows as if a vertical eye had opened. He looked toward the harbor. His Supersensitive Intuition allowed him to see certain things clearly, even from ten kilometers away.
"I see a welcoming ceremony just for me. Good. Very good!"
A smile appeared on Devi’s lips, and it grew more and more unbridled.
SWISH!!
With a light tap of his foot, he leaped high from the bow, landed on the surface of the sea, and began sprinting toward the harbor.
"Mr. Devi!!"
Seeing this, the middle-aged man’s expression changed drastically as he seemed to realize something.
’It can’t be...’
But he was powerless to stop him and could only watch as Devi’s figure disappeared into the distance.
「In the harbor.」
"He’s coming toward us. To be able to detect us from so far away... he’s got some skill."
"He is, after all, a psychic prodigy. In this era, aside from that Yi Beidou, he’s probably the strongest. The chosen of the new age are not to be underestimated."
"Still, to sense our presence and still dare to charge straight here... you have to admire his courage."
In the harbor, atop a shipping container, light and shadow distorted in the Void, and figures materialized out of thin air on top of it.
One, two, three, four.
A total of four figures appeared from nowhere.
This meant that, based on the intelligence, a total of four avatars of the Ancient Ones were lying in wait.
Such a formation showed they were taking Devi very seriously.
「About a quarter of an hour later.」
SPLASH!!
The sea’s surface churned as a figure leaped high into the air, landing on the harbor grounds. His gaze fell upon the four figures waiting quietly atop the shipping container.
"Four avatars of the Ancient Ones. Should I say you’re taking me seriously, or underestimating me?"
Devi said coolly, his gaze sweeping over them.
"What do you think? Devi Punk. We meet again."
Among the four, a man in a sharp suit with an effeminate face spoke with a smile. As he talked, a sanguine light seemed to burst from around him, causing the surrounding scenery to twist and wither under its glow.
"So, it’s a loser I’ve already beaten."
Devi’s eyes narrowed as he recognized the man.
It was the Black Earl, one of the three avatars that had attacked Yi Beidou back in Modu.
An avatar of this very person had died by his hand.
The next moment.
SWOOSH!!
The four figures flickered, their bodies shifting as if teleporting, and instantly surrounded Devi in a four-pronged formation, trapping him in the center.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Terrifying waves of power surged skyward from the four figures, forming pillars of light like signal fires that sealed off the entire surrounding area.
"This time is completely different from the last," the Black Earl said with a smile.
"A four-on-one encirclement... that’s not exactly a fair fight. But when it comes to killing, the means don’t matter, am I right?"
Devi’s expression was calm. He turned his palm upward, and a dream-like radiance suddenly burst forth.
The pupils of the four figures contracted sharply.
In the center of Devi’s palm, an object had materialized from nothing, hovering in mid-air.
Its design was extremely archaic, covered in all sorts of complex and esoteric patterns.
It was a crown.
Although it looked incredibly solid, as if it were a physical object, all the Ancient Ones present could sense that its essence was illusory.
It was a condensation of a powerful magnetic field, with a structure more stable than that of so-called "Deities." Without needing any external force, this special magnetic field could exist for thousands of years without dissipating or perishing.
It was, quite simply, a miracle.
Born of illusion, yet eternally indestructible.
"A Spirit Treasure?!"
one of the four avatars said in a deep voice.
