025. Catching the Spirit
025. Catching the Spirit
Two thousand li due south.
The Little Sumeru Mountain Buddhist Temple, a monastery for lecturing on Buddhist scriptures.
At the place of Bodhisattva Lingji.
A gust of wind swept in, stirring up waves.
The wind and waves stopped about ten feet away from Bodhisattva Lingji.
When the storm subsided, a tiger was seen kneeling on the ground, kowtowing and bowing to the Bodhisattva Lingji.
"Hmm? You little tiger, instead of keeping an eye on those rats at Yellow Wind Ridge, why are you here?"
Lingji Bodhisattva lowered his eyes, his gaze devoid of sorrow or joy, and calmly asked the question.
Upon hearing the question posed by the Bodhisattva on the throne, Tiger Vanguard shrank into a ball, trembling even more.
But he still spoke, his voice trembling:
"Bodhisattva, the Yellow Wind King has captured Tang Sanzang from the Tang Dynasty in the East and is about to eat him."
"What?"
Upon hearing this, Bodhisattva Lingji's expression changed drastically.
He had planned it all out. He had Tiger Vanguard take action, knowing that with Sun Wukong's abilities, Tiger Vanguard was sure to be no match for him.
When the time comes, King Huangfeng, whose vanguard has been killed, will have no choice but to take action.
Given the Yellow Wind King's abilities, even Sun Wukong would have a hard time defeating him.
When the time comes, won't we still have to ask the Bodhisattva Lingji to be here?
When he makes his move, he easily suppresses the Yellow Wind King and displays his divine power in front of everyone.
As a result, a huge problem arose in this first step.
Bodhisattva Lingji asked urgently:
"You said Tang Sanzang was captured by the Yellow Wind King? How was he captured?"
What was Sun Wukong doing?
Lingji Bodhisattva stood up, and the anxiety on his face gradually subsided.
He was shocked by the news, but upon closer reflection, he realized that the Yellow Wind King wasn't stupid.
There's no reason why the Yellow Wind King wouldn't know that Tang Sanzang was the reincarnation of Jin Chanzi, the second disciple of Buddha.
As long as they know this, unless the Yellow Wind Monster has lost his mind, there is absolutely no way he could kill Jin Chanzi.
But what he's doing now is rather interesting.
Why hasn't that Monkey King come to ask him for help yet?
Lingji Bodhisattva narrowed his eyes and stared at Tiger Vanguard, asking:
"What about Tang Sanzang's disciples?"
With Sun Wukong's strength, even if he couldn't win, there was no way he couldn't escape.
Tiger Vanguard answered, trembling:
"The disciple was blinded by the king's breath and was sent flying."
"In that case, I'll go take a look."
Bodhisattva Lingji was greatly alarmed.
In this vast Yellow Wind Ridge, only the Yellow Wind King possesses any real strength.
I originally thought that the Yellow Wind Monster could only defend and was no match for Sun Wukong.
Now it seems that the problem actually lies with Sun Wukong.
Since that's the case, he has to go and check on Tang Sanzang.
Although he was protected by the Four Duty Officers, he would have a hard time explaining himself to Buddha if something went wrong.
Thinking this way, Bodhisattva Lingji said to Tiger Vanguard:
"I understand. Go back and continue to observe that yellow-haired rat."
After saying this, Lingji Bodhisattva took out a string of Buddhist beads from his bosom, put them in his palm and twisted them.
The next moment, a white cloud appeared in front of Bodhisattva Lingji.
Stepping onto the white clouds, bathed in Buddha's light, they slowly descended towards Huangfeng Ridge.
Tiger Vanguard, who was still kneeling on the ground, slowly raised his head and looked at Lingji Bodhisattva, whose figure had disappeared. He couldn't help but raise his hand to wipe the cold sweat from his forehead.
He then turned to the empty space and said:
"I have accomplished my task. Please, Your Majesty, let me go."
As soon as he finished speaking, a figure suddenly appeared not far away.
The figure grew larger and larger, and in the blink of an eye, a six-eared macaque, taller than a person, appeared in front of Tiger Vanguard.
"It worked?"
Sun Qiong asked a question.
Tiger Vanguard nodded quickly and repeated everything he had just said to Bodhisattva Lingji.
After confirming that everything was correct, Sun Qiong suddenly took out an iron rod and struck Hu Xianfeng on the head.
Snapped!
With a sharp crack, Tiger Vanguard collapsed to the ground, his bones shattered.
"Your Majesty promised to release me, why did you kill me?"
Sun Qiong looked at Hu Xianfeng with a sneer: "Your bloody aura may fool others, but it won't fool me, Old Sun."
This stench of blood is so strong that it would take a hundred or eighty living people to raise a child.
After saying that, Sun Qiong raised the iron bar high and slammed it down with a thud.
Having done all this, the avatar finally turned its gaze to Huangfeng Ridge:
"I hope everything goes well."
On the other side, Lingji Bodhisattva was also fast, and arrived at Huangfeng Ridge in the blink of an eye.
But he withdrew the Buddhist light emanating from his body, and with a simple change of form, transformed into a fly and burrowed into the Yellow Wind Cave.
At this moment, Huangfeng Cave was bustling with noise, and the many little demons were all beaming with joy, just like it was New Year's Day.
Several lesser demons gathered together and began to speak:
"I've heard people say that this monk from the Tang Dynasty in the East has fair skin and tender flesh, and eating one of him could probably grant immortality."
"Huh? That old monk is just an ordinary person, how can he have such effects?"
The first little demon to speak clapped his hands together and chuckled:
"If it didn't have this effect, why would our Yellow Wind King from heaven have bothered to capture him?"
Hearing the little demon say this, Bodhisattva Lingji was startled.
This Tang Sanzang was just an ordinary monk; how could he possibly have any immortality-enhancing abilities?
However, if these little demons believe it, they might actually bite Tang Sanzang.
This won't do; Tang Sanzang can't die here.
Thinking this, Bodhisattva Lingji quickened his pace and flew towards the Yellow Wind Cave.
From the little demons along the way, Bodhisattva Lingji quickly learned where Tang Sanzang was imprisoned.
Without hesitation, he sped up and flew towards that direction.
"Why hasn't the Fourth Duty Officer come to report?"
A hint of doubt flashed through the mind of Bodhisattva Lingji.
However, it was quickly replaced by another reason.
Those guys probably realized they couldn't beat the Yellow Wind Monster, so they went to find Sun Wukong.
They abandoned their posts without permission; I'll definitely impeach these guys when I get back.
They flew into a deep prison, and through the bars they could see a monk dressed in monastic robes and wearing a Vairocana amulet, who was bound inside.
At first glance, he does indeed resemble Tang Sanzang somewhat.
Lingji Bodhisattva didn't suspect anything, and went straight into the cell, saying to the monk sitting there:
"Xuanzang, I am Lingji Bodhisattva of Vulture Peak in the Western Paradise. I heard that you are in trouble here, so I have come to help you..."
Before he finished speaking, the expression on Lingji Bodhisattva's face suddenly froze.
He stared in horror at the monk before him, his voice rising several decibels:
"You are not Tang Sanzang!"
We've been tricked!
The moment this thought crossed his mind, the monk suddenly stood up and rushed towards him.
As a sense of horror rose within him, Bodhisattva Lingji remained calm.
Although he is a deity who possesses magical artifacts, his ability to quickly seize magical artifacts is also a talent.
And he was able to retrieve the necessary magic weapon at the perfect moment.
Dealing with the Yellow Wind King is quite simple for him right now.
All it takes is the Flying Dragon Staff to easily suppress the Yellow Wind Monster.
After subduing them, we'll deal with these disobedient little mice one by one.
However, just as he took out the Flying Dragon Staff, a gust of evil wind immediately swept from behind him.
The wind came so fast that almost the instant the wind was heard, the fierce wind had already struck Lingji Bodhisattva.
Sa!
The fierce wind swept towards Lingji Bodhisattva, but it was as if it had crashed into a thick wall.
"snort!"
Lingji Bodhisattva sneered inwardly.
He didn't just appear here unprepared; the cassock he was wearing wasn't just an ornament.
The Bodhisattva turned around, looked at the fierce wind that had been sent flying backward, and asked in a cold voice, "The Yellow Wind Monster?"
The evil wind revealed its form, and it really was the Yellow Wind Monster.
Without hesitation, Bodhisattva Lingji immediately took out the Flying Dragon Staff from his robes, ready to activate the magic weapon.
However, in the next instant, a soft laugh came from behind:
"Bodhisattva, once you enter here, you will never be able to get out."
Behind him was the fake monk, whose identity Lingji Bodhisattva did not yet know, and was about to ask him a question.
But then they saw a golden pillar descending from the sky, with three golden rings embedded in its body.
"Could this be a Dragon-Hiding Stake?"
"The Bodhisattva is knowledgeable, but I wonder if he has ever personally experienced the taste of this Dragon-Hiding Stake."
As soon as he finished speaking, the three golden rings on the pillar flew up simultaneously and rolled towards Lingji Bodhisattva.
Now the Bodhisattva dared not be arrogant. The Flying Dragon Staff was effective against the yellow-haired rat, but it had no effect on these three golden rings.
Fortunately, he had a protective magic weapon on him, which he was about to use immediately.
Unexpectedly, the fake monk moved closer, seemingly about to attack head-on.
"How dare you!"
With a shout, Bodhisattva Lingji turned his flying dragon staff around and smashed it toward the fake monk.
Unexpectedly, the fake monk rubbed his hands together and produced a burst of lightning.
This palm strike landed firmly on the Flying Dragon Staff, instantly producing a series of ear-piercing crackling sounds.
A thunderous roar erupted, and Lingji Bodhisattva felt a numbness in his hand, unable to hold onto the Flying Dragon Staff.
With a clang, the Flying Dragon Staff fell to the ground.
At the same time, the three golden rings that had been hanging in the balance immediately rolled forward, trapping Lingji Bodhisattva on the spot.
"Where did you obtain this magical artifact?"
Despite being in a predicament, Lingji Bodhisattva did not panic. Instead, he turned around and looked at the fake monk.
The fake monk laughed and wiped his face with his hand:
"Bodhisattva Lingji, do you still remember me, Old Sun?"
