Chapter 33: The Compassionate Face
Chapter 33: The Compassionate Face
Li Wu remained silent for a moment, going over He's words in his mind, and then said in a deep voice:
"You mean, if I go to the Buddhist realm, there's a high chance I'll run into those reincarnated Maha?"
He Jingyu shook his head, his expression grave, and said:
"It's not a possibility, it's a certainty."
"Perhaps Maha has been eyeing you for a long time. Your journey to the west may be the result of the schemes of the Purple Mansion True Men."
"The [Divine Thunder] technique has a suppressive effect on Buddhist cultivators. If you can really kill the current Maha incarnation and sever his reincarnation, that would be the best outcome. You might even be able to break through to the Foundation Establishment stage through this."
"If he loses, and this becomes Maha's destiny in this life, then Maha will remember the kindness of those Purple Mansion True Man."
"That means you won't lose money either way."
Li Wu sneered. Now he finally understood what those Purple Mansion True Persons were planning.
"That's a brilliant plan."
"Fellow Daoist Li's trip, I'm afraid, is..."
Li Wu waved his hand and said:
"It's alright. Although it's a situation where neither side loses out, those Purple Mansion True Persons definitely hope that I can kill this incarnation of Maha."
Otherwise, the Qi family wouldn't have given him a Foundation Establishment level magic weapon first, and then given him elixirs to help him break through to the late Qi Refining stage.
Moreover, those Buddhist monks and they were bound to be rivals, and naturally they would not be willing to easily hand over Li Wu unless absolutely necessary.
"Alright, it's getting late, Fellow Daoist He, I'll be taking my leave now."
After learning about the various Buddhist and Taoist practices, Li Wu decided not to waste any more time.
He Jingyu stood up, cupped his hands, and said solemnly:
"Fellow Daoist Li, take care!"
Li Wuwei nodded slightly in return and then flew away.
…………
In the vast emptiness.
Several rays of sunlight shone, creating a colorful spectacle.
Qi Shaoning watched Li Wu's figure heading west, breathed a slight sigh of relief, and said:
"This Li Wu hasn't even reached the Foundation Establishment stage yet, can he really attract the reincarnated Maha?"
The True Man Taixi, standing to the side, nodded slightly and said with certainty:
"There are already very few lightning-attribute cultivators in this world, let alone those who are skilled in [Divine Lightning]... Back then, [Divine Lightning] struck those Maha beings the most fiercely."
"They certainly wouldn't let such a destiny slip by... but who knows which reincarnated Maha will ultimately obtain it."
He looked at Li Wu, who was flying on the wind, crossing numerous mountains and rivers, and said in a deep voice:
"Perfect, we can also take this opportunity to find out which fellow Daoist is protecting him."
Qi Shaoning nodded slightly. Even though the [Divine Thunder] technique is difficult to confuse the mind or be seduced by supernatural powers, it is absolutely impossible for a Purple Mansion True Person not to be able to refine their Qi.
There must be a Purple Mansion True Person or even a Golden Core True Lord taking care of him behind the scenes.
Qi Shaoning pondered in his heart:
"I guess they are fellow Daoists of the [Wood Virtue] path... but I don't know exactly which path they belong to."
However, in the battle at Lei Palace, the Wood element sided with Lei Palace and was naturally defeated, which greatly affected their path.
"My disciple has already gone into seclusion and will break through to the Foundation Establishment stage in three to five years. With this matter settled, I should also begin preparing to refine the precious pill."
Qi Shaoning is not good at alchemy, so he needs to seek help from other fellow Daoists to refine Ning Miao's Dao foundation into a precious pill that can help him refine supernatural powers.
Moreover, a number of other spiritual items must be prepared.
…………
Li Wu flew westward, passing many towns along the way. He saw farmers working in the fields, barren land, and people exchanging children to eat.
The further west you fly, the fewer towns become, replaced by temples one after another.
After flying for an unknown amount of time, Li Wu felt a little tired and just then saw a temple made of gold and jade not far ahead.
The temple was filled with the fragrance of incense, and the smoke rose straight up. The chanting of Buddhist hymns was melodious and gentle.
Li Wulu was standing in front of the temple gate, about to knock, when the temple gate opened by itself.
Then he saw a young monk standing there. Li Wu looked up and saw that the young monk looked to be about twenty years old. He was holding a string of Buddhist beads in his hand, wearing a simple kasaya, with phoenix eyes, silkworm eyebrows, and a compassionate face.
"What a bald monk," Li Wuxin thought to himself.
The young monk lowered his eyes, silently recited a Buddhist scripture, and whispered:
"This humble monk has been waiting for Benefactor Li for a long time."
"You know me?" Li Wu was somewhat surprised.
The young monk did not answer, but instead gestured for Li Wujin to enter the temple.
Li Wu was not afraid and strode in, following the young monk into the hall.
The hall was filled with a sweet fragrance, and a golden Buddha sculpture stood on the platform, its face solemn and dignified, yet conveying a sense of compassion for saving the world.
However, when Li Wu looked at the Buddha statue, his brows furrowed slightly, and the thunder in his dantian was stirring restlessly, making it difficult for him to suppress.
The stone platform beneath the Buddha statue is so white it looks like it was built from bones.
"This Buddha statue...has it eaten people?"
He looked sharply at the young monk beside him.
The young monk shook his head and said in a compassionate tone:
"They have committed many sins, but the Buddha, with his compassion for all beings, has instructed us to help them overcome their sins in this life and send them to the next life in the cycle of reincarnation."
Li Wu suppressed the agitation in his heart and continued to ask:
"Before I entered the temple, I heard the soft sounds of chanting and reciting Buddhist scriptures. Why are there no other monks here now?"
The humble monk, still with his hands clasped together, spoke calmly and slowly:
"The Buddha has no form; since your heart is filled with sin, you naturally cannot see the Buddha."
"Hahaha!"
Li Wu laughed in extreme anger, his body flashing with silvery-white lightning. He said in a deep voice:
"Then tell me, where does my sin come from?"
The young monk chanted Buddhist scriptures, and intricate golden patterns appeared all over his body, resisting the approaching lightning.
"Your sin stems from the lightning within you."
"Back then, the Thunder Palace did not distinguish between good and evil, and wantonly punished all living beings, causing widespread suffering. Our Buddha is compassionate, so he vowed to save all the Thunder cultivators in the world."
"So, you're going to save me?"
The humble monk lowered his eyes and spoke with a compassionate expression:
"I hope you will turn back from the dead, kneel down and kowtow, with utmost sincerity, and entrust your life to this humble monk."
Li Wu finally couldn't suppress the anger he had been holding in. He summoned his halberd, and lightning suddenly surged around him, the silvery-white lightning lashing at the Buddha statue.
Rumble!
Li Wu cleaved the golden statue on the bone platform with a sudden strike, and instantly, waves of wronged souls emerged from the collapsed platform.
Some rejoiced, others wailed, trying to approach Li Wu and pull him into paradise, but as soon as they got close, they were forced back by the lightning surrounding him.
"Hmph! A bunch of greedy devils."
Li Wulan ignored these people and focused his gaze on the unmoved young monk, saying in a deep voice:
"Aren't you going to do anything?"
The humble monk knelt before the collapsed Buddha statue, hands clasped in prayer, and lamented with compassion:
"Your mind has been clouded by evil lightning. As the saying goes, if I don't go to hell, who will? I am willing to offer myself to help you get rid of the evil lightning."
"Great, excellent!"
Li Wu's eyes flashed with ruthlessness. He immediately raised his halberd high, which was crackling with lightning, like a thunder serpent.
Just as he was about to kill the young monk with a single blow, a flash of lightning suddenly struck Li Wuxin's mind.
He was so startled that he staggered back, then suddenly woke up.
