Chapter 245 Putting an end to my worries
Chapter 245 Putting an end to my worries
At the end of the corridor of the Dragon Club, there is a dark wooden door with a small sign on the doorknob that reads "Closed".
A series of light footsteps approached, and then the wooden door was pushed open from the outside. Qi Yuhao practically rushed in, his eyes scanning the lounge before settling on the only person in the room.
He rushed over, his voice filled with the excitement of surviving a disaster and the joy of seeing Li Hao again, "Brother Li Hao!"
Li Hao looked towards the gate and saw two people enter. They looked tired but were fully equipped, so he knew they had successfully evacuated.
"You're back! How are you?" Li Hao stood up to greet the two of them, his tone concerned.
"The process wasn't great, but the result was okay." Cai Chengfu said, taking his backpack off his shoulder and putting it on the table. The backpack was heavy and made a dull thud when it hit the table.
"What happened? How did you escape from the warden? Did Operation Black Tide come in handy?" Li Hao asked several questions in a row, somewhat impatiently.
He waited here for so long, constantly thinking about their situation, constantly worrying and waiting for news.
On one hand, they were hoping to get the news soon, and on the other hand, they were silently praying that they wouldn't get the news too quickly, because if they did, it would mean that they hadn't escaped the encirclement.
"It came in handy!" Qi Shao immediately replied. "Thanks to Brother Li Hao for taking on that Black Tide mission and bringing Raven here, who fought with the warden. Otherwise, we would have been surrounded and killed."
Li Hao was about to ask for more details, but had only uttered one syllable when Cai Chengfu raised his hand, making a "stop" gesture.
"Li Hao, we can talk about that later. I have something more important to ask you."
"Hmm? What is it?" Li Hao looked at Cai Chengfu's serious expression and felt a chill run down his spine, so he became serious as well.
"You know there's an evacuation point in the reservoir area outside the tidal prison, right?"
Li Hao nodded, somewhat puzzled. Almost everyone who had been to prison knew about this evacuation point; it wasn't anything unusual.
"What kind of NPCs usually guard the evacuation point?" Cai Chengfu continued to ask.
"NPC?" Li Hao touched his chin, his brows furrowed, and his gaze swept around before returning to Cai Chengfu's face. "Sniper. That area is relatively open, and there are basically only snipers on the hillsides near the water. Sometimes there might be a rocket soldier."
"Are all these NPCs up in the mountain?"
"Roughly that location? What's wrong?" Li Hao looked at Cai Chengfu, who was deep in thought after asking the question, and wondered why he suddenly asked this.
Qi Shao couldn't stand it any longer. He took a step forward and exclaimed, "Water monster! There's a water monster in that water!" His eyes were wide open, and his expression was serious, not like he was joking.
"A water monster?" Li Hao frowned, puzzled, not understanding what Young Master Qi meant by water monster. He turned to Cai Chengfu, hoping to get an explanation from him.
Cai Chengfu frowned, tapped his hand lightly on the table twice, making a tapping sound, then shook his head and said, "I don't know what it is either. The conclusions I've come to so far are not as reasonable as what Young Master Qi said about a water monster."
"What on earth happened?"
So Cai Chengfu briefly recounted to Li Hao his experience of swimming towards the evacuation point with Qi Shao and Han Che, as well as what happened afterward.
Qi Shao kept adding "horrifying details" to the story, such as how the monster touched his feet, how the shadow slowly pushed the water away from under his feet, and so on.
Li Hao was utterly incredulous after hearing this. "Is what you're talking about the same place as the Tidal Prison I went to before?"
"Do you recall any NPCs in prison capable of performing such acts?"
"No, I've never heard of any NPC who can swim. According to what you've said, they even need to dive..." Li Hao was completely baffled, but he did remember something.
"But those two unfortunate wandering cultivators you mentioned who got their bodies smashed, their deaths seem kind of familiar to me..."
"Could it be some kind of weapon?"
……
Xiao Bai drove up to Han Che and pulled up in front of him, rolling down the window.
Han Che stood on the steps at the entrance of the building, his hands in his pockets. "You guys go back first. My rented apartment is very close to here, so you don't need to see me off."
Xiao Bai knew that too much had happened today, and everyone was exhausted, so they didn't insist on having a meal together or anything like that.
She nodded, a slight smile playing on her lips. "Okay, then be careful on your journey and get some rest."
Han Che nodded. "I don't have anything to do for the next few days, right? I'll take a couple of days off."
Xiao Bai thought for a moment, going through the club's schedule in her mind, "It's nothing, you should get some rest."
After saying that, Han Che turned and left.
Xiao Bai watched his retreating figure, her lips moved as if she wanted to say something, but no sound came out.
He paused, his hand raised in mid-air, and with great effort shouted towards the retreating figure, "Contact me anytime if you need anything!"
Han Che paused for a moment, but didn't turn around. He took his hand out of his pocket, waved it in the air, and left Xiao Bai's sight.
Xiao Bai stared in that direction, his gaze shifting, before finally driving away.
Old Zhou sat in the passenger seat with his legs crossed, his body sunk into the seat.
He took a cigarette out of his pocket, put it in his mouth, and with a snap, the lighter ignited the cigarette.
The cigarette butt turned red for a moment, and then a cloud of smoke was exhaled.
Xiaobai cracked open the passenger window, and the airflow sucked all the smoke out of the window.
"Today was really tiring. This is the most tiring operation I've ever participated in." Old Zhou's voice came from behind the smoke, a little hoarse.
"Yeah, there's been so much to do today." Xiaobai gripped the steering wheel with both hands, his eyes fixed on the road ahead.
Old Zhou turned his head, rested his arm on the car window, and held a cigarette between his fingers.
His gaze swept over Xiaobai's profile, and after glancing at her face, his brow twitched slightly. There seemed to be a hint of...relaxation in her expression compared to when he left?
"Has a matter on your mind been settled?" Old Zhou asked casually.
Xiao Bai was slightly taken aback, feeling somewhat unconvinced. Was it really that easy to guess what she was thinking?
"Mmm." But she didn't deny it.
"That's good..." Old Zhou looked at Xiao Bai's eyebrows and eyes for a moment with a meaningful look, then sighed softly, looked away, and looked at the scenery outside the window.
"A hundred knots of affection, a heart hanging in a thousand places," he said softly, as if talking to himself.
The cigarette slipped from his fingers, fell out of the car window, and sparked a few tiny embers on the ground.
