Chapter 1049: Moraine the Elegant!

Chapter 1049: Moraine the Elegant!

Another month passed.

In his red priestly robes, the Claw of the Beast, Deacon Heavenly Father, a Top-level 9th Floor Contestant, frowned.

He was riding the massive Deusphage Aragami, Susano’o, standing atop its head.

The reason behind his frown was the sight reflected in his eyes.

Heavenly Father looked at the pieces of corpses of small Aragamis, thousands in number, covering the ground in front of him.

He could see bits of Dreadpikes’ horns.

He could spy the butchered tails of Vajratails.

The shell part of the cocoon on Blast Spiders’ backs was still oozing out fire.

Electricity was still sparking out from the hundreds of turbines, signifying the massacre that Ukonvasara must have faced.

Actually, it wasn’t the sight of this bloody battlefield that made Heavenly Father frown, per se.

It was the timing of its appearance and the place.

For the last month, Heavenly Father’s Aragami army had been losing squads after squads, day after day.

That had failed to faze him, though.

First, even if the Stark bitch had received an Item through the Primordial Tower Trade Market, which allowed her to kill a few Aragamis, it would only delay the inevitable.

She didn’t have nearly the strength to continue such a battle of attrition against him.

Second, he had still a considerable supply of small Aragamis.

After finding out that Quasi Cipher Pol had been issuing Death Marks for White Serpent Pirates, Heavenly Father had sought the Chief Bishop on the 12th Floor, convincing the Temple to let him take care of the Stark bitch.

Being a Deacon of the Temple of Amon-Gorloth, he had his own privileges.

However, those privileges also demanded sacrifices from time to time.

To ruin the bitch’s elegance and fuck her ego in the ass, Heavenly Father had sacrificed almost all of his medium Aragamis and... three of his Deusphage Aragamis!

It was this sacrifice that had allowed him to lay waste to the storyline Characters without attracting Timeline Backlash.

Such a sacrifice was no small matter for him.

It could, and would, greatly hamper his growth once he ascended the Set.

Still, to see the Stark bitch’s unsightly appearance, to make her beg for her life to him...

Yes.

When Heavenly Father thought of that, it made it all worthwhile.

And that’s why he couldn’t help but frown at the sight of this battlefield.

To make sure that none of the storyline Characters would end up helping the Stark bitch, he had emptied his vaults, throwing over seventy-five percent of his small Aragami Summons at them.

By the end, he had even gone as far as to summon Dyaus Pita.

Dyaus Pita’s loss still lingered in Heavenly Father’s heart like a phantom pain.

Still, with Susano’o by his side, and with the remaining army of small Aragamis, he could easily turn Moraine’s life into hell.

But this battlefield, which was miles away from the battle that had raged between his Summons and the storyline Characters, and must have happened only recently, perhaps only a few days ago, told a different tale.

Suddenly, Susano’o’s entire body stirred, a loud GURGLING sound escaping its throat.

The scorpion-like Aragami stood up on its hind legs, making the Claw falter slightly. It lifted its bearded, skull-like, black head and sniffed, saliva dripping from the corner of its mouth, pooling on the ground.

"I..." Susano’o worded, its voice carrying greed and hunger. "... sense a God Arc."

WHAT?!

Heavenly Father’s eyes popped out.

That was... impossible!

Susano’o was a special Deusphage Aragami, with the nickname — Godsbane!

It had a special taste for God Arcs — special weapons that were designed to kill Aragamis.

Which meant that, if Susano’o had sniffed a God Arc in the air, then this battlefield wasn’t the result of Moraine using some Consumable Item of mass destruction, but...

No.

No!

That couldn’t be possible!

Before coming here, Heavenly Father had made sure that Moraine didn’t have the God Eater Standalone Title, as only such a Contestant could use a God Arc. Not only that, but she had neither the means nor the Mission Credits to buy a God Arc from the Primordial Tower Trade Market.

It wasn’t like no one would offer her a God Arc.

With her being a member of White Serpent Pirates, even a few 5th Set Contestants would end up offering her a God Arc to curry favor with the Five-Crowned Prince.

But, using his authority as a Claw, he had already emptied the Temple’s vaults, splurging Mission Credits and whatnot to buy all such Contestants’ words, making sure that they wouldn’t accept any deals.

Going against those words would mean going against the entire Temple.

No Contestant, even if one belonged to the 5th Set, would risk their life over a bitch, right?!

Then... how?

As if the world had decided to answer his question, a coldness seeped into the atmosphere.

Despite having many Cold-resistance Buffs, a chill ran down Heavenly Father’s spine.

A crackling sound attracted his gaze to the battlefield.

Flames. Thunder. Blood and gore.

That’s the only thing Heavenly Father had been able to see before.

Now, a thin layer of silvery ice began appearing over the earth, draping a sheet of frozen, white cloth over all the fallen Aragamis.

With that layer of ice, a fog began appearing from all around.

More than the fog’s coldness, it was its color that stood out, making Heavenly Father squint.

The fog held a... glow, making it shine blue, silver, and white.

It was as if this wasn’t fog, but a massive cloud, hiding a full moon behind it.

Suddenly, Susano’o slammed its arms down, a tremor running down from its body into the ground.

With that tremor, the ice shattered, and all the fog vanished, billowing off the field.

But the coldness persisted, and the reason behind it revealed itself to Heavenly Father, making his face go blank under its impossibility.

Far in the distance, there stood a figure, donning a torn rag over its body.

The figure’s face carried a makeup of black filth and bloody gore.

And this figure also wielded a massive greatsword...

... a sword that was bleeding ice, shining like a moon!
